Paola Pittau: ceramist of emotion

Chef Antoine Gras at Les Barmes de l’Ours fell instantly in love with creations by this self-taught and amazingly gifted ceramist, working in her studio-boutique in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

Born in Italy, Paola Pittau has had an unusual career, first as a special education teacher, but is clearly a born artist. Painting, sculpture, writing…, she has always expressed herself through art and discovered pottery in 2010 when she came to live in Bourg-Saint-Maurice. A real revelation making her abandon everything else to devote herself to it completely. She taught herself alone on the Internet and sold her creations at markets where her talent soon drew attention. Passionate about clay and copper, she works on raw materials to produce a unique, authentic style. She is constantly inspired by surrounding nature, stones, landscapes, the soil, contrasts…

For several years, Chef Antoine Gras has been ordering her creations, giving her ideas, guidelines, and even sometimes a helping hand, to achieve perfect harmony between tableware and his culinary offerings! This year at La Table de l’Ours, you will find her knife rests, appetizer dishes in pale yellow and black recalling the surrounding moss, unstructured and enamelled bowls in turquoise and black, her oil decanters, minimalist plates, always handmade, with a certain asperity and whiteness surrounded by the colour of pale wood, in all delicacy.
